Title: Formulation Scientist
Position Summary:
The Formulation Scientist directly reports to the Vice President, R&D and is responsible for any and all formulation-related work for the new product development in Ascend Laboratories. The Formulation Scientist shall provide feedback, periodic reports and inputs for strategic planning purposes, and be responsible for formulation and other related services in the business unit.
Responsibilities:
- Perform pre-formulation / incompatibility studies
- Perform physical characterization of active pharmaceutical ingredients
- Design and develop formulations and processes for drug products
- Perform routine physical evaluation and / or chemical testing of experimental batches
- Collect and analyze experimental data
- Maintain and update raw material inventory
- Design and monitor stability program of product formulations
- Set up, operate and clean process equipment
- Write and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Manufacture pilot and / or test batches
- Write / review master formulas and batch records
- Write product development reports
- Transfer process technology to clients at completion of development activities
- Provide assistance during manufacture of scale-up and / or validation batches
- Perform other necessary functions or duties as assigned by the Vice President or immediate supervisor
Minimum requirements for this position:
- A BS, MS or Ph.D. degree in pharmacy, chemistry, chemical engineering or related field
- 3+ years of solid dose formulation experience and good knowledge of cGMP
- Experienced in pre-formulation, formulation development, scale-up and technical transfer
- Good communication skills and the ability to interact with colleagues, partners and customers
- Willingness to work in an entrepreneurial environment, travel overnight and take responsibility
It is desirable that the candidate for this position is qualified and/or knowledgeable in:
- Regulatory affairs such as ANDA, NDA, IND, etc.
- Several analytical techniques such as GC, UV, IR, HPLC etc.
